South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has recently come under criticism after she revealed that she killed her pet dog.

The revelations detailed in his upcoming memoir, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” have sparked controversy and criticism from both sides of the aisle.

In her book, Noem vividly describes how she euthanized her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, Cricket.

He also discussed why he killed the dog. He said that Cricket was “untrainable” because of his aggressive behaviour. According to Noem, the dog attacked a local family’s chickens during a pheasant hunting trip. Faced with this dilemma, Noem took the cricket to a gravel pit and shot it.

Under South Dakota law, owning a dog that chases, injures or kills poultry or domestic animals is considered a class two misdemeanor. Noem’s decision to end cricket, whether legally justified, has raised questions.

The revelation drew criticism from both political quarters, including from former Trump White House staffer Elissa Farrah Griffin. The Democratic National Committee also described the excerpts as “appalling” and “disturbing.”

In response, Noem defended her actions by citing the realities of farm life. She acknowledged the feedback but stood by her decision, saying, “Difficult decisions like this are made on the farm all the time.”

Noem’s political journey includes serving as a U.S. House representative and being elected as the first female governor of South Dakota in 2018.

She is best known as a cattle breeder, farmer and best-selling author.

Despite his accomplishments, recent polling reveals mixed opinions on his viability as a potential vice presidential candidate alongside Donald Trump. While some see her as a suitable choice, others express reservations, especially considering her recent controversy related to the euthanasia of her dog Cricket.

In her defense, Noem explained that Cricket’s aggressive behavior, including biting people, led her to make this decision. He emphasized adherence to South Dakota law regarding dogs posing a threat to livestock.

“No Going Back,” to be released May 7, promises insight into political dysfunction and lessons from leading South Dakota through challenges.
