'Remarkable feat': PM Modi praises India's record coal, lignite production

As India’s coal and lignite production crossed 1 billion tonnes for the first time in 2023-24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed it as a remarkable feat and a historic milestone.

According to official data, India’s total coal and lignite production in the 2022-23 financial year was 937 million tons.

Modi said: “This is a remarkable feat. Coal and lignite production crossing 1 billion tons marks a historic milestone for India and reflects our commitment to ensuring a vibrant coal industry. It also ensures India’s An important industry heading towards Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance),” X said in his post.

Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi also praised the achievement.

“We are proud to share that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have achieved a remarkable achievement with coal and lignite production crossing the one billion tonne (BT) mark,” he said.
