Indian cricket team spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s social media post about Ajinkya Rahane’s batting in the ongoing Ranji Trophy final between Mumbai and Vidarbha has gone viral. Rahane survived an extremely close LBW appeal when Umesh Yadav’s delivery bounced off and hit him on the pads. Despite Vidarbha’s confidence, the umpire ruled in favor of the batsman and replays showed that this should have been the umpire’s call. Commentators said Rahane misread the speech, causing some discomfort, and Ashwin also highlighted similar concerns on Instagram.

“We have to talk about Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership. When the head is down, it becomes difficult to hit the cut serve. When your head is down, the cut serve always puts you in trouble. Ajinkya has to do that. Stay vigilant,” a commentator said after the incident.

Former Bengal cricketer Joydeep Mukherjee also noted in his commentary that Rahane’s foot position showed that he wanted the ball to fall directly to his bat.

“The foot pointing towards midfield tells me he’s playing the ball straight rather than lunging backwards, otherwise the ball would have been much straighter. He couldn’t adjust his movement because of the length,” Mukherjee said.

Shreyas, meanwhile, was in fine form on Tuesday, smashing 95 off 111 balls and his celebration went viral on social media.
