The Election Commission has issued a notification prohibiting the conduct, announcement or publicity of exit polls between 7 am on April 19 and 6.30 pm on June 1, when polls for the Lok Sabha and four state assemblies will be held.

The notification issued on Thursday also clarified that under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, the display of any election matter, including the results of any opinion poll or any other opinion poll, on any electronic media is prohibited within 48 hours. A period that ends at a fixed time when voting ends.

Apart from the Lok Sabha polls, assembly elections will also be held in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim.

In addition, by-elections for 25 parliamentary constituencies in 12 states were also held during this period.
