As the deadline to select India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad approaches, former cricketers are sharing their opinions on which players should be selected and who should be ignored. Due to the discussion about Virat Kohli’s strike rate and intentions, there is a big debate on his selection in the team. Hardik Pandya, who is the only key fast-bowling all-rounder of the Indian team, is also a player whose future has been intensely discussed due to his poor all-round form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
As the buzz continues, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared his 15-member squad for the showpiece event in June.
Top order:Irfan went to the top of the batting order with Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli. Any one of them can be used for the two opening slots, while Shubman Gill also remains an option among the reserve players. Overall, Irfan picked four players for the two opening spots, with Kohli and Gill also able to play at the No. 3 position.
Middle order: Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dubey play the middle-order role, while Hardik Pandya is the only fast bowling all-rounder. Although Dubey also bowls seam, but till now he has not been used as a bowler by Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Surprisingly, there was no place for Sanju Samson in the team and Pant was chosen as the only wicketkeeper. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were among the top players to miss out.

Spinner:Ravindra Jadeja is the only spin-bowling all-rounder in the team while Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav accompany him as spinners. Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy were among the notable absentees from the roster.
Fast bowler:In the fast bowling unit, Jasprit Bumrah was supported by Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh. The names of some other players like T Natarajan, Mayank Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed etc. have also been discussed, but among the fast bowlers, Irfan went with a tried and tested combination.
