‘Awful, weird, poor’ umpiring criticized over LSG star’s run out vs MI. Look cricket news

The Mumbai Indians vs Lucknow Super Giants match turned into a low-scoring thriller, despite Mumbai Indians cruising at one point while chasing the predetermined target of 145 runs. A flurry of wickets in the middle overs meant LSG were 132/5 in 18 overs. Things became more interesting when Ayush Badoni was run out on the first ball of the 19th over. However, it was not a clean run out and the decision to run the batsman out was described as ‘awful, weird, bad’ by fans and experts.

All this happened when Ayush Badoni was trying to take the second run on the first ball of Hardik Pandya. MI wicketkeeper Ishan Ishan Kishan missed the chance to hit the stumps in the first but then did so in the second attempt. Badoni’s dive was long but it is not clear whether his bat bounced while reaching the crease or not. The third umpire considered it out. Irfan Pathan criticized this decision.

After restricting Mumbai Indians to just 144 runs, Lucknow Super Giants cheered a win in a lackluster match of IPL 2024 so far.

Marcus Stoinis was the star of the day as his all-round performance of 62 runs with the bat and 1/19 with the ball helped LSG register a crucial four-wicket win over MI at the Ekana Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.

Chasing less than 145 on a slow wicket, Nuwan Thushara provided the opening strike by dismissing Arshin Kulkarni for a golden duck. KL Rahul left the role of anchor as his score after three overs was 5 runs off 13 balls and he was already set to remain there till the end, leaving the responsibility of playing to other batsmen.

Thushara and Gerald Coetzee gave KL Rahul two free balls down the leg side and he was unable to connect with either of them. But thanks to two consecutive boundaries of Stoinis, Coetzee was out after scoring 15 runs in the second over.

LSG lost captain Rahul on 28 due to a brilliant catch by Mohammad Nabi off Hardik Pandya, which brought Mumbai back into the game as the duo added 58 runs in 40 balls for the second wicket.

Stoinis looked good and Deepak Hooda did well in the four balls he faced. It was a tough task for MI as they needed a few wickets to make changes on a wicket that was looking a bit sluggish.

Stoinis was impressive with another half-century, but LSG faltered towards the end and took the game to the last over. Nicholas Pooran’s experience came in handy as the home team successfully crossed the finish line with 4 balls to spare.

LSG overtook CSK to reach the third position in the IPL 2024 points table, while MI are placed ninth in the points table with just 3 wins from 10 matches.
