Mumbai Indians fast bowler Gerald Coetzee smashed youngster Mayank Yadav’s record with the fastest ball of IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals on Monday . Mayank had broken this record two days ago by hitting a speed of 155.8 kmph for Lucknow Super Giants, but Coetzee surpassed his by a considerable margin Record. The sizzling 157.4 kmph hitter from the South Africa international came on the last ball of RR’s chase and Riyan Parag managed to steer it towards the third man boundary to create a four-man situation. Overall, Coetzee ranks second behind former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait, who hit 157.71 kmph while playing for Rajasthan Royals in 2011.
Fastest deliveries in IPL history:
Sean Tate 157.71 km/h – 2011
Gerald Coetzee 157.4 km/h – 2024
Rocky Ferguson 157.3 km/h – 2022
Umran Malik 157 km/h – 2022
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya on Tuesday said that despite scoring a hat-trick, the former champions will not give up and will continue to fight in the ongoing IPL.
“If there’s one thing you should know about this team, it’s that we never give up. We will keep fighting and we will keep moving forward,” Hardik posted on X.
Hardik has been facing the wrath of fans ever since he succeeded Rohit Sharma as MI captain. The all-rounder was booed in the team’s first two matches and the hostility from the crowd reached a peak in Monday’s first home match of the season.
To add insult to injury, MI’s start to IPL 2024 under his leadership has been disastrous, with them finishing at the bottom after three defeats.
However, MI is known to be a slow starter. In 2015, they lost their first four games before winning the championship.
Questions have also been raised about Hardik’s poor performance as captain – whether it was not giving Bumrah the new ball or giving Tim David the lead against the Gujarat Titans.
The change of captain did not satisfy a large number of military supporters. The Wankhede Stadium was filled with chants of “Rohit Rohit” on Monday, with the Indian captain himself asking the crowd not to mock Hardik.
Mumbai Indians next face Delhi Capitals at home on Sunday.
