Mumbai’s municipal body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has presented its annual budget for 2024-25. According to official details, the total fiscal budget for this year is Rs 59,954 crore, of which Rs 928 crore has been allocated to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to upgrade infrastructure in the city.
The Civic Budget, which has a major focus on reducing road congestion, has also proposed the construction of a commercial and transportation hub at the former Oktoray Naka site at Dahisar and Mankud to reduce traffic in Mumbai.
This is what the official said
According to details shared by TOI, Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal said, “The main objective of the proposal is to provide an integrated bus terminus with other modes of transport in the city such as BEST, Metro and Paratransit ensuring inter-city and/or inter-state Buses terminate at city entry points to reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai.”
Projects that BMC will create?
Furthermore, Chahal said the project will be funded by BMC. To provide a clearer picture of the transport hub, he said: “Suitable developments such as office space/commercial, transit hotels, retail spaces, exhibition centers and conference centers have been planned at these locations to fully utilize the benefits of these plots.” He continued that the move would generate revenue and make the project sustainable. “
Traffic survey completed
To kick-start efforts to achieve this, traffic surveys have been conducted at all five toll plazas. This gave authorities an idea of the actual number of buses entering and exiting Mumbai on a daily basis.
