Ministry of Defense issues tender to purchase 97 Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets

The Ministry of Defense has approved the project to procure 97 more Tejas Mk-1A jets for the Air Force

New Delhi:

The Defense Ministry has issued a tender to state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to procure 97 more light combat aircraft (LCA Mk-1A) Tejas fighter jets for the Indian Air Force, officials said today.

These fighter jets are expected to cost around Rs 67,000 crore.

Tejas is a powerful platform for air combat and offensive air support missions, while reconnaissance and anti-ship operations are secondary roles.

In November, the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the procurement of 97 Tejas fighter jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The Defense Acquisition Council also approved the Indian Air Force’s proposal to upgrade its fleet of Su-30 fighter jets by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
