Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant got into a heated argument with the on-field umpire over a DRS call during their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday. The incident took place in the fourth over of the LSG match when Ishant Sharma bowled the ball down the leg side to Devdutt Padikkal. The on-field referee signaled that the ball was deflected, but Pant signaled for a review. Replays showed that it was indeed a wide-wicket, but Pant was annoyed, with commentators suggesting that the Washington captain insisted that he had not asked for a review.

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist was not too impressed with Pant’s antics during a heated chat with the umpire.

While suggesting Pant should be fined for his actions, Gilchrist also slammed the referee for failing to handle the situation.

The former Kings XI Punjab (then Kings XI Punjab) captain feels that umpires should be given more powers to deal with players.

“I saw another example tonight where the umpires need to control the game better, no matter what format it is. They just have to do a better job of moving things forward. There’s a dispute as to whether Rishabh reviewed it or not. Well, there was miscommunication during the review call. But they stood there and talked for 3-4 minutes. I believe it was a very simple conversation. No matter how much Rishabh complained or how much any other player complained, the umpire should have said , ‘It’s over’ and then quickly moved on, but if he kept talking he should have been fined,” Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.

Back in the action, Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk hit a half-century on his IPL debut to help DC beat LSG by 6 wickets.

Fraser McGurk and Pant (41) shared 77 runs for the third wicket to put DC in control of a 168-run chase.

The 22-year-old hit five sixes and two fours before losing 55 to Arshad Khan.

It was just D.C.’s second win of the season and lifted them out of the bottom of the 10-team standings.
