Money-saving expert Martin Lewis has revealed a simple trick to save “a ton” of money before mobile phone network prices rise.

In a video posted on his social media, he urged his followers to send free texts to let them know if they were able to switch networks.

“Why not text INFO to 85075, it’s free and it will tell you if you are one of the 14 million people in the UK who are currently on contract expiring, so feel free to switch and potentially save some money,” he said.

“I should point out that there are times when it doesn’t work, for example if you have a contract where there are multiple phones in a household, in which case if you are with the same provider for more than two years you It’s possible the contract is up.”

His comments came shortly after mobile phone networks were expected to grow by around 8% in early April.

Last year’s rise was as high as 17.3%, meaning someone paying £20 a month on a standard two-year contract at the start of 2023 could soon be paying more than £25 a month.

Lewis called it “absolutely outrageous” and said he had written to lobby the chancellor to end mid-contract inflation rises.

Major providers including BT, EE, O2, Sky, Three, Virgin Media and Vodafone have all confirmed price increases this spring.

“It’s really a good opportunity to see if you can save,” he said. “As for what you get, the best deals aren’t direct, they’ll be through comparison sites where you invest your marketing budget to give you a cheaper price.

“Currently you can get 100GB of data per month on a SIM card for less than £10 a month, and many people are paying much less.

“Remember there are only four mobile networks in the UK and every other network relies on one of these four. You want to do a comparison and see what the cheapest deals are on the signals I currently have if you visit me The cheap mobile finder on the website, you can do this type of search and see what’s out there.”
