Scooter enthusiast Prakash dies after being run over by bus

Bangalore:

A 62-year-old man died in a tragic accident involving Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje’s SUV in Krishnarajapuram area of Bengaluru today. The minister’s driver was one of two people detained over the incident.

The incident occurred when Ms. Karandraj, the candidate of the BJP’s Bengaluru North constituency, was canvassing nearby ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The minister was not in the Toyota Fortuner when the accident occurred. Her driver opened a side door and Prakash, 62, who was riding a scooter, hit the door and was thrown onto the road. Before he could stand up, a private car ran over him and he died on the spot.

Police said the bus driver and Ms Karandraj’s SUV had been detained and further investigations were underway.

Ms Karandraj later told reporters that Prakash was a BJP worker and expressed condolences over his death. “We are all in pain. Prakash was our dedicated worker who was with us round the clock. Our thoughts are with his family. We will pay the compensation from our party funds,” the minister said.
