Man arrested after driving through Buckingham Palace gates

A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after driving his car into a gate outside Buckingham Palace.

The incident happened at the royal residence in central London at around 2.35am on Saturday morning.

The man was arrested by armed police at the scene and taken to hospital, the Metropolitan Police said.

Following an assessment, he was triaged under the Mental Health Act.

He has since been released on bail.

Police said there were no reports of injuries and an investigation into what happened was ongoing.

They added: “The matter is not considered to be related to terrorism.”
