New Delhi:
Suspended Socialist Party of the Philippines leader and House of Representatives member Danish Ali joined Congress today in the presence of senior party leaders.
After joining the Congress party, Mr Ali said it was important to join the party to fight “divisive” forces given the current situation in the country.
“On one side are the separatist forces and on the other side are those who are fighting to gain benefits.”Mother Ali said it was time to decide where one stood.
“If we have to fight against the forces of separatism, we have to strengthen the Congress party under the leadership of Mallikarjun Haq, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
“The ideology with which we started politics…we have to strengthen our forces to fight against these divisive forces. That is why I took this important decision while planning my future political journey to become a member of the Indian National Congress members,” he told reporters.
Danian Ali, the sitting MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha, was suspended by the Samajwadi Party (BSP) last year for anti-party activities. He will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from the same constituency in the Lok Sabha polls.
The event was also attended by Uttar Pradesh AICC chief Avinash Pande, who welcomed Mr Ali to the party.
Pande said the party will benefit from Danish Ali’s inclusion as he has been involved in politics since his student days. Mr Ali also joined the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh and Manipur.
He had earlier served in the Janata Dal and was a former member of the Lok Sabha from Karnataka.
