The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Finance Bill 2024, completing the process of passing the mid-term budget for 2024-25.

The Finance Bill 2024 does not propose any changes in the tax structure as the final budget will be presented in July after the new government takes office after the general elections in April-May.

Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary said the Finance Bill 2024 does not propose any changes in the tax structure.

“Despite the interim budget being presented before the elections, our focus remains on development,” Chaudhry said while responding to discussions on the bill.

Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha approved the federal government’s interim budget of Rs 4,766 crore for 2024-25 and the second tranche of supplementary appropriation requirement.

The House also approved an appropriations bill authorizing four months of government spending in the next fiscal year.

The Lok Sabha also approved a budget of Rs 180 crore for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
