On March 13, the NFT industry was directly recognized by the Indian Railways, becoming a landmark day for the Indian digital asset industry. To celebrate the spirit of Holi, IRCTC has launched colorful NFT tickets for two Tejas trains plying between Delhi and Lucknow cities. IRCTC (i.e. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) is a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways of India.
IRCTC showed off the first side of these NFTs via its very active X handle. Ostensibly, these NFTs will feature sketches of historical landmarks in Delhi and Lucknow against colorful shaded backgrounds. Beginning March 20, ticket buyers for Shining Train numbers 82501 and 82502 will be eligible to receive these NFTs. The initiative will end on April 2.
NFTs also have some benefits that IRCTC explained in its X post. It said: “These tickets are more than just digital souvenirs. They symbolize our commitment to enriching your journey experience, allowing you to personalize your travel memories with your own photos and enjoy exclusive offers from carefully selected brands.”

At this time, IRCTC has not officially confirmed whether all ticket buyers will receive these NFT tickets for free with their purchase, or whether they will need to pay an additional fee to use these digital collectibles. NFTs are digital collectibles built on a blockchain network.
Indian Railways has been exploring blockchain technology for long enough and now it is circulating NFTs as digital souvenirs. For example, in March last year, the National Railway Research Institute of India partnered with Polygon to host a workshop to promote the benefits of blockchain in the railway industry.
