Punjab Kings registered a thrilling victory over Gujarat Titans by three wickets in IPL 2024 in Ahmedabad on Thursday. When asked to bat first, GT were at 199/4 with captain Shubman Gill smashing an unbeaten 89 off 48 balls. Later, batsman Shashank Singh remained unbeaten with an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls, and PBKS sealed the victory with the penultimate ball of the match. Ashutosh Sharma also hit a quick knock of 31 off 17 balls for PBKS. This was Punjab’s second win in four games.
With the win, PBKS jumped from seventh to fifth in the standings with a total of four points and a net run rate of -0.220. GT, on the other hand, slipped to sixth place with two wins in four games and a net run rate of -0.580.
Kolkata Knight Riders are currently at the top of the table with a total of three wins in as many games.
Talking about the match, Gill scored 89 off 48 balls, his highest individual score so far this season, in the process hitting 6 fours and 4 fulls to lead the way GT achieved an impressive score of 199 runs for four wickets. He also received generous help from B Sai Sudharsan’s 19-ball 33 and Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten 23 from 8 balls.
But GT faced a heartbreaking moment as Shashank produced the best performance of his life with an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls during which he hit 6 boundaries and 4 sixes to lead PBKS Go home with a ball.
He was well supported by Ashutosh Sharma (31 off 17 balls) and the two scored 43 runs off just 22 balls, boosting PBKS’ hopes of achieving them.
