Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Hyderabad BJP candidate to contest after 'imaginary arrow' controversy

He also said that the police should have investigated the truth before filing the FIR against him

Hyderabad:

Alleging that there is a secret pact between Congress and AIMIM, BJP candidate from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat K Madhavi Latha on Monday said she will approach the Election Commission over the FIR lodged against her by the city police.

Police on Sunday said an FIR has been registered against Madhavi Latha following a complaint that she had hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community by pointing an arrow towards a place of worship.

A purported video of the incident was widely circulated on social media last week.

He also said that the police should have investigated the truth before filing the FIR against him.

“The police should also have some sense before registering the FIR. Why did they do this? They should have found out the truth before registering the FIR. Where is the truth in the video? This is how Congress and these people (AIMIM) have a hand.” ” “We are contacting the Election Commission to find out the truth,” he told PTI in a video.

Without elaborating, he said similar cases had been registered against Muslims when some social activists came to find out facts about the Waqf properties.

He alleged that his opponents are keen to create their vote bank by any means and it does not matter to them even if the youth are deprived of jobs.

Police said the complaint alleges that during the Ram Navami procession on April 17, Madhavi Lata took out an arrow and pointed it towards the place of worship, thereby hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community.

He said the case was registered on April 20 under Indian Penal Code section 295-A (intentional and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) .

After the clip went viral, Madhavi Latha in a post on X said that it has come to her notice that an incomplete video of her is being circulated to create negativity.

She had said, “I would like to clarify that this is an incomplete video and if anyone’s sentiments have been hurt due to such a video, I would like to apologize because I respect all individuals.”
