Haryana is planning a modern interstate bus terminal near Dwarka Expressway, Gurugram, which will replace a dilapidated facility in Sector 12.

Haryana transportation Officials told Hindustan Times that the department is preparing for a significant revamp of the state’s transport infrastructure with plans to construct a state-of-the-art interstate bus terminal near the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram’s Sector 36A.

This ambitious project aims to replace the existing terminal in Sector 12, which has faced challenges due to its deteriorating condition. The state government has directed Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) to allot 15 acres of land free of cost for the construction of the new terminal.

According to estimates by Haryana Roadways officials, Gurugram’s current interstate bus terminal, located on a 13-acre plot, handles a daily passenger load of about 10,000 persons.

However, the main building of the terminal has not been functional for many years due to its dilapidated condition. Instead, operations are carried out in a temporary shed that can accommodate only 100-150 passengers, with drivers and conductors working from temporary structures, the HT report said.

The urgent need for an upgraded facility has led the state to pursue the development of a new terminal.

The proposed interstate bus terminal has been designed as a modern transport hub with multi-storey centrally air-conditioned buildings.

The facility will include offices, a huge waiting area for 500-1,000 passengers, a shopping mall and a food court. This comprehensive plan aims to enhance the overall experience of both passengers and staff while providing a comfortable and efficient environment.

Although the concept of the new terminal is promising, construction has not yet started as HSIIDC has not identified the specific 15 acres of land for transfer to the transport department.

The intended plot is part of a 145-acre area earmarked for large-scale infrastructure projects in Sector 36A.

Officials say the final layout and demarcation for these projects have not been determined, delaying the land transfer process, HT further said.

Haryana Roadways General Manager (Gurugram) Pradeep Kumar has assured that efforts are underway to expedite the transfer process. A letter has been sent to HSIIDC headquarters seeking clarification on land demarcation and layout. Once the land is transferred, the department will proceed with the architectural planning and construction of the new terminal.

The relocation of the interstate bus terminal is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Old Gurugram.

The existing terminal has been causing traffic jams on roads like Sadar Bazaar, New Railway Road, Bus Stand Road, MG Road and Old Gurugram-Delhi Road.

The strategic location of the new terminal near the Dwarka Expressway is set to reduce congestion, as buses will directly enter the expressway or Central Peripheral Road without crossing city roads.
