From Lord Ram’s ‘Dasavidh Snan’ to 22 January ‘Pran Pratishtha’: A look at the rituals of 7 days

With the ‘Dasavidha Snan’, the final seven-day rituals of ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Lord Ram’s idol began on January 16. Officials of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said that the priests nominated by the trust initiated it. Ritual during the early hours of Tuesday.

General Champat Rai said, “‘Dasavidha Snan’ is probably the first ritual that will be performed on the banks of river Saryu on January 16. This ritual, a part of the atonement ceremony, will include the worship of Vishnu and Godan.” The Secretary of the Trust highlighted other rituals to be performed before the Pran Pratistha.

After ‘Dasvidh Snan’, a grand procession was taken out on 17 January. In the ceremony, the idol of Rama was taken to the temple premises in a Mangal Kalash along with the waters of river Saryu. After this, Ganesh Ambika Puja, Varun Puja, Matrika Puja, Brahmin Varan, Vastu Puja and other ceremonies were organized on 18 January.

On January 19, a grand Havan was performed with the installation of fire and installation of Navagraha. On January 20, the sanctum sanctorum of the temple was washed with the sacred water of the Saryu River, followed by rituals including Vaastu Shanti and Annadhivas. On January 21, the idol of Lord Ram was given a divine bath with 125 urns. Along with this, the ritual of Shayadhivas was also performed.

On the last day, January 22, the idol will be worshiped in the morning and the consecration ceremony will be performed in the afternoon in Mrigashira Nakshatra. The Pran Pratistha ceremony will conclude on January 22 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will perform the final rituals by opening the eyes of the deity with a matchstick-sized golden stick.

PM Modi, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and temple trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das will be in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on January 22.

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has sent invitations to over 7,000 people for the final consecration ceremony, which includes 3,000 VVIPs, 4,000 saints from different parts of the country, representatives from 50 countries and family members of ‘kar sevaks’ . Was part of Ram Mandir movement.

Among the 3,000 VIP guests, the trust has invited actors Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, yoga guru Ramdev, industrialists Mukesh Ambai, Ratan Tata and Gautam Adani for the inauguration ceremony. Famous TV actors Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia, who played the roles of Lord Ram and Sita on screen, have also been invited.

The event will also be attended by more than 500 people from the engineering group, who played an important role in the construction of the temple.

Saints from all over India, speaking all languages, Shaivites, Vaishnavas, Shakyas, Ganapati worshippers, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, as well as all philosophies, Kabir, Valmiki, Shankar Dev tradition of Assam, ISKCON, Gayatri, Mahima Samaj Barkaris of Odisha , Barkaris of Maharashtra and Lingayats of Karnataka will be present.

The temple will be open for devotees from January 23, however, the Trust has requested people to come to Ayodhya after January 26 to have darshan of Ram Lalla.

Both the statues of Ramlala will be kept

Putting an end to all speculations, Trust General Secretary Rai said on Monday that the present idol of Ram Lalla will also be installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the new temple.

Responding to a question, Rai said that the present idol will also be dressed in a new attire and worshiped during the consecration ceremony.

Rai stressed that people have been worshiping the present idol of Lord Shri Ram for the last 70 years (since 1950) and it will be installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the original temple along with the new idol.

Interestingly, at present, the idol of Shri Ram Lalla is kept in the temple along with the idols of his three brothers.

Ramlala’s statue will be installed on January 18

The worship rituals before the consecration of Shri Vigraha in Ram temple will start from January 16. On January 22, there will be a program of consecration of Shri Ram Lala in Abhijit Muhurta of Paush Shukla Dwadashi.

Pran Pratishtha is scheduled to begin at 12:20 pm on January 22, the timing of which has been decided by Ganeshwar Shastri, the eminent priest of Varanasi.

Rai said that the responsibility of conducting the entire ritual related to consecration will be of Laxmikant Dixit of Varanasi. He informed that the puja rituals are going to start from January 16 and will continue till January 21. The idol to be consecrated is made of stone, with an estimated weight of 150 to 200 kg. The statue represents the form of a five-year-old boy and is intended to be installed in a standing position.

Consecration of life after the ‘residence’ of Shri Vigraha

Rai said the iconic idol undergoes a process called ‘Adhivasa’, in which various types of accommodations are made for the idol, including water, food, fruits, medicine, ghee, bedding and fragrances. Rai explained that it is considered a difficult process as the process must be done as per the guidance of religious leaders while acknowledging the complexity and importance of the ritual.

According to Rai, invitations have been extended to saints representing more than 150 diverse traditions like Dharmacharya, Adivasi, Girivasi and Samudravasi.

Gift from Mata Sita’s maternal home

Rai said that water will be collected from many places like Mansarovar, Amarnath, Gangotri, Haridwar, Sangam of Prayagraj, Narmada, Godavari, Nashik and Gokarna for the celebrations.

In line with a traditional custom, an elaborate gift consisting of grains, fruits, clothes, dry fruits, gold and silver has been presented from Birgunj in southern Nepal, a region associated with Mithila. Similarly, representatives from Sitamarhi, the birthplace of Sita Mata, have also arrived with their gifts. Apart from this, gifts have also been brought from Ram ji’s maternal home Chhattisgarh. A dedicated sadhu from Jodhpur has also contributed ghee from his cow shed.

Champat Rai said that a total of 8,000 chairs have been arranged in the temple courtyard for the distinguished persons attending the Pran Pratistha.

People have been encouraged to participate in the cleanliness drive on January 22, attending bhajans and kirtans in their temples.

The Pran Pratishtha program will be telecast live, which will enable wide participation of Indians. In the evening, after sunset, it is advisable to light five lamps outside the house as an offering to Lord Rama for his return.
