India achieved one of its biggest wins in archery when the men’s recurve team of Dheeraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Praveen Jadhav defeated defending Olympic champions South Korea to win the gold medal in the ongoing World Cup Stage 1 here on Sunday. In a battle between the top two seeds of the competition, the Indians showed great composure to get the better of the mighty Koreans without losing a single set. India won 5-1 (57-57, 57-55, 55-53), taking its tally of gold medals in the season-opening global showpiece to five.

Indian compound archers had won gold medals in men’s, women’s and mixed team events in the team events on Saturday.

Reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam on Saturday won her fourth gold medal in the women’s compound individual category, while Priyansh won a World Cup silver for the first time in the men’s individual compound category.

India has five gold and one silver so far in the competition.

Former world No. 1 Deepika Kumari is also eyeing a gold medal and will play her Korean rival in the women’s recurve individual semi-finals in the afternoon session.

India is also fighting for a bronze medal in the recurve mixed team event.
