Kanye West faces allegations of ‘less than favorable behavior’ by security guard

A former security guard has accused singer Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, of giving black staff “less favorable treatment than their white counterparts”.

The security guard, Benjamin DeShon Provo, filed a new lawsuit, alleging that West, 46, “often yelled at and berated black employees” and fired him after he refused to cut his dreadlocks.

Provo worked security for West at his private school, Donda Academy, and at a warehouse where the creative kept his Yeezy brand of clothing.

Earlier this month, West was already dealing with a complaint from another employee that she experienced “severe discrimination, harassment” while working at Donda Academy School and as part of his Yeezy brand. This is the most recent complaint against West.

According to the most recent complaint, which was filed in Los Angeles on Friday, April 26, Provo began working for rapper Vultures in August 2021 and then attended Donda Academy for six months.

After the school relocated, he was “assigned additional work as a result of staff shortages” at the new location. Additionally, he provided security at West’s Sunday Service events and his warehouse for Yeezy.

Additionally, the plaintiffs say West demanded that “anyone associated with Donda dispose of books related to Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X and other prominent figures in the black community.” The plaintiff claims he was directed to “harm” himself and the paparazzi by holding the cameras.

The complaint also claims that Provo noticed “substantial differences in the way Kanye treated Plaintiff and other Black employees” compared to his “non-Black counterparts.” It also alleges that he was paid less than non-Black employees “for no apparent reason”, and that West “was always rude, rude and disrespectful towards Plaintiff and his Black counterparts.”

After complaining about the disparity in compensation, Provo apparently received the following response from direct manager John Hicks: “Don’t bring money for these. “They don’t like to talk about money.”

According to the complaint, West “began unreasonably and unreasonably demanding that Plaintiff and others shave their heads,” even though Provo had shaved his hair “as a practice of his Muslim faith” in April 2023. Was worn in dreadlocks.
