Former Sri Lanka captain Lahiru Thirimang was admitted to hospital after being involved in a horrific car accident in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, on Thursday. The car he was traveling in was involved in a serious head-on collision and he was rushed to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The exact nature of his injuries is unclear at this time, but he is currently in stable condition. According to reports, there was at least one other passenger in the car with Thiliman, who was also receiving treatment in the hospital.

Thirimanne currently plays for New York Strikers in the Legends Cricket League and the team has released an official statement regarding the incident.

“We would like to inform you that Lahiru Thirimanne and his family were involved in a minor car accident while visiting a temple. Thankfully, they have been admitted to hospital for observation.”

“Fortunately, after a thorough medical evaluation, we can confirm that they are both safe and well and there is nothing to worry about. We thank everyone for the care and support they have given us during this time. We kindly ask that their privacy be respected during their recovery process.” , the statement said.

According to Newswire.lk, Thiriman was on a pilgrimage when the accident occurred. In the accident, the car hit a truck coming from the other side and was seriously damaged.

Thirimanne played 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs and 26 T20Is in his decade-long career. He has played in three T20 World Cups, including the 2014 triumph. He will retire in July 2023.
