Former Sri Lanka captain Lahiru Thirimang was admitted to hospital after being involved in a horrific car accident in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, on Thursday. The car he was traveling in was involved in a serious head-on collision and he was rushed to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The exact nature of his injuries is unclear at this time, but he is currently in stable condition. According to reports, there was at least one other passenger in the car with Thiliman, who was also receiving treatment in the hospital.

Thirimanne currently plays for New York Strikers in the Legends Cricket League and the team has released an official statement regarding the incident.

Thirimanne played 44 Test matches, 127 ODIs and 26 T20Is in his decade-long career. He has played in three T20 World Cups, including the 2014 triumph. He will retire in July 2023.
