MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad to co-lead CSK?Deepak Chahal admits ‘captaincy chaos’ | Cricket News

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially made a change at the back with Ruturaj Gaikwad taking over as captain of the team from MS Dhoni. The decision was announced a day before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. While there has been a change on paper, how much say will Ruturaj have in terms of on-field decision-making compared to Dhoni? CSK pacer Deepak Chahar admitted there was confusion as he had been looking to Dhoni and Ruturaj for instructions in the first two games of the season.

Super Kings kicked off the 17th season of the T20 League by winning their first two matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). While the results showed that Gaikwad got off to a 100% start, the baton handover from Dhoni seems not to be completely complete yet.

“I have to look at Mahi (MSD) bhai and Ruturaj, both of them are doing field placements and so on these days. So, it’s a bit confusing where to look now, but Ruturaj is doing a great job and he is leading the way,” Chahal said said in an interview with broadcasters after the game on Tuesday.

Chahal also opened up about his role in the team since the captaincy was changed from Dhoni to Ruturaj. Not much has changed for him as he is still the go-to player for the team when it comes to taking wickets in the power play.

“I’ve been bowling three overs in the powerplay since I started playing, so I’m used to it and just trying to bowl as well as possible under the new rules,” he said.

Chahal also talked about the new rules of the IPL that allow bowlers to bowl two bouncers in an over. The seamers are happy to have this option as it can help the pacers improve their game.

“Earlier, if you hit one bouncer in the first 2-3 balls, the batsmen were always ready to hit the ball full length, but this new rule allows two bouncers to be bowled, which is a big plus for all walks It helps. There’s always bounce, but now there’s not a lot of dew around. The ball will catch and bounce in this situation,” he asserted.

Chahar performed well with the new ball for CSK, taking the wickets of Wriddhiman Saha and Shuban Gill while compiling figures of 2/28 in 4 overs.
