India captain Rohit Sharma has denied rumors that he met head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar during the Indian Premier League to discuss India’s T20 World Cup plans. There have been several reports over the past few days that Rohit had a two-hour long meeting with Dravid and Agarkar in Mumbai where two main topics were discussed – Hardik Pandya Need to bowl regularly to make it into the T20 World Cup squad and whether Virat Kohli should start batting alongside the India captain.
Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Rohit denied all these claims and labeled them “fake”. He also warned fans not to believe anything that does not come directly from him, Agarkar, Dravid or the BCCI.
“I haven’t met anyone. Ajit Agarkar is playing golf somewhere in Dubai and Rahul Dravid is actually in Bengaluru watching his kids They play ball. [Dravid] in mumbai but he got his [the son] Played on the clay wicket of CCI. That’s it,” Rohit revealed.
“To be honest, we haven’t met. I think in today’s day and age, unless you hear it from myself, Rahul himself, Ajit himself or someone from BCCI on camera, everything is fake ‘s,” he added.
Coming back to Hardik’s situation, the all-rounder replaced Rohit as the captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. However, his performance this season has been a concern as the former Gujarat Titan has not been playing regularly.
He is missing over 12 runs per over and has only 3 wickets to his name.
Kohli, meanwhile, has been firing on all cylinders in IPL 2024 and is leading the run-scoring charts so far.
Till a month ago, there was speculation about Kohli’s place in the T20 World Cup squad, but his blitzkrieg in IPL 2024 put an end to that futile debate.
As far as India’s T20 World Cup squad is concerned, BCCI is expected to break the suspense later this month or in the first week of May.
