The stampede occurred around 1:15 p.m.

New Delhi:

Today, a stampede occurred at the revered Shriji Temple in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, during pre-Holi events. The incident left at least six worshipers unconscious and injuries were reported among those in the crowd.

According to eyewitnesses, the stampede occurred around 1:15 p.m. Police said the large number of tourists, coupled with the special occasion of Laddu Holi and today being Sunday, led to overcrowding.

CCTV footage taken at the temple showed a large crowd engaged in a stampede-like situation. In the chaos, someone seemed to be dragged along by the crowd. Others were seen desperately trying to pull out fellow believers trapped among the bodies.

During the chaos, about six people became unconscious and required immediate medical attention. A team of doctors stationed at the scene administered first aid to the injured and then shifted them to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

According to reports, two of the injured were seriously injured.

Shortly after the stampede broke out, a team of police officers was sent to the temple to restore order and assist with crowd control measures.
