New Delhi:
In a shocking incident in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, a 60-year-old Dalit woman was beaten after her goat strayed into a field. The landowner beat the woman with a stick and insulted her.
Video of the attack went viral on social media, sparking outrage and calls for justice for the victims. In the video, the attackers can be seen beating the helpless woman mercilessly while hurling caste-based insults at her.
The local authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and the police have registered a case and promised to take swift action against the culprits.
The incident once again exposed the discrimination and violence that Dalits continue to face in parts of India.
In February this year, a Dalit groom was attacked in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, for riding a horse to a wedding.
The groom was riding a horse, in a procession of about 100 people, heading to the bride’s home in the village when a man on a motorcycle stopped him, dragged him off the horse and slapped him. The accused also engaged in caste discrimination against the groom and objected to his riding a horse, saying only members of his community could ride.
