Court directs Delhi jail to bring AAP MP Sanjay Singh to Parliament for swearing-in

The court warden ensured adequate security during Sanjay Singh’s operation.

New Delhi:

A Delhi court has directed Tihar jail officials to bring Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh, who was arrested in the excise fraud case, to Parliament so that he can be sworn in as a member of the Lok Sabha.

Special Judge MK Nagpal directed the jail superintendent to ensure adequate security during the operation of Singh.

“The relevant prison warden was instructed to ensure that the defendant was brought to Parliament in sufficient security on 19 March 2024 to take the parliamentary oath and that he be safely brought back to prison after taking the oath,” the judge said.

In the order passed on March 16, the bench said that Singh will not be allowed to use his mobile phone or talk to any other accused, suspect or witness in this or CBI-related cases during the visit.

Justice Nagpal said he was also not allowed to address the press or hold any public meetings.

However, the judge said he may be allowed to see his lawyers and family members during visits.

He passed the order on March 19 while granting Singh exemption from appearing in person.

Sanjay Singh, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to the now-abandoned Delhi excise policy case, is in judicial custody.

The ED started investigation based on the CBI case. The ED is investigating the alleged money laundering component of the scam.
