“No matter who is chosen, the Chinese and American peoples will still need exchanges and cooperation, and the two major countries must find the right way to get along with each other,” he said.

Emphasizing the principles of mutual respect, peaceful co-existence and win-win cooperation, the Minister referred to the recent telephone conversation between the Presidents of the two countries and said that both the countries should give importance to peace and stability .

‘Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’

Criticizing “Taiwan independence separatist activities and external disruptions” as threats to regional stability, the foreign minister underlined the need to oppose the island nation’s independence.

Without naming anyone, the minister lamented the double standards of “some countries” in arming Taiwan independence separatists on the one hand and calling for regional peace and stability on the other.

His comments come as Washington, a key and arguably most important and staunch ally of Taiwan, has for years been arming it with advanced weapons – something Beijing is tired of.

Earlier in January this year, China banned five US arms manufacturers over arms sales to the self-ruled island.

Additionally, responding to a question related to the ongoing Israel-Gaza war, Yi condemned the deaths of 100,000 civilians and reiterated the need for a ceasefire.

He also reaffirmed China’s support for the Palestinians, including the country’s permanent membership in the United Nations as well as the establishment of an independent Palestinian state governed by the Palestinians.
