It has been a dreadful IPL 2024 campaign for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as Faf du Plessis lost by one run against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. This was RCB’s seventh defeat in eight matches and they are currently at the bottom of the points table. The franchise, which has an extremely loyal fan base, has always boasted of big-name players but has failed to win the competition even once. Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa advised RCB to bring back some of the match-winners like star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal whom they had let go in the last few years.

“First of all, I will go and beg Yuzvendra Chahal to come back. I will do anything; go through hell and high water to get Yuzvendra Chahal back from RR, make amends. I will probably go and bring back Harshal Patel and Look at the caliber of batsmen they have – Faf du Plessis, Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik – but they have great batsmen like AB de Villiers, Travis Head played for them,” Uthappa said on The Ranveer Show podcast.

Chahal is currently the most successful bowler in the history of IPL but after the 2021 season, RCB did not retain him and he joined Rajasthan Royals.

Chahal was not the only star player to leave RCB and find success with other franchises, as players like Shivam Dubey and Devdutt Padikkal have also shown good promise. Uthappa said that RCB needs to break this pattern and ensure that the team retains its big players.

“Now let’s look at the domestic players. Manish Pandey, me, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt Padikkal… they have let them all go. Rahul Dravid is the highest run-scorer for them after Virat Kohli. Crazy Nah? It tells you a story if you go beyond that narrative and say that Virat Kohli, regardless of the wicket and the conditions, knows how to score runs, when he won in 2012, 2014, you have to score 170 runs. Make it difficult. RCB can’t invest too much in the bowling and the number of players who have played in this IPL.
