After witnessing delays in baggage delivery at India’s top airports, India’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS) has issued a stern warning to top airlines to streamline baggage handling procedures or face stern action.

According to details shared by ANI, the agency has issued letters to seven of the country’s largest airlines, instructing them to take necessary steps to deliver the luggage on time. Warning letters have been sent to IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa, Air India Express, Vistara and Air India Express.

BCAS made the decision after seeing the results of a survey conducted at six major airports in the country where the above-mentioned airlines were listed.

BCAS says this

“Airlines must ensure delivery of passengers’ baggage within 10 to 30 minutes after the aircraft engine is shut down,” ANI said, citing BCAS’s new regulations.

Implementation deadline

The news agency also reported that authorities have given all airlines 10 days to implement the new regulations, with a target date of February 26, 2024. Strict action will be taken against airlines that do not comply with the order.

Monitoring exercise begins

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Aviation’s BCAS has started monitoring in early 2024 to ensure that passengers do not have to deal with baggage delays on conveyor belts.
