Guwahati:
Today, a security personnel was shot when a convoy of three Assam Rifles vehicles was ambushed by unidentified armed men in Tinsukia district of Assam. The incident occurred near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border when a patrol convoy was traveling from Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh to Margherita in Assam.
“The troops retaliated and foiled the ambush. In the process, one personnel was injured. He has been evacuated to Jorhat Military Hospital and is in a stable condition,” an Assam Rifles statement said.
ULFA (I) claimed responsibility for the encounter involving the Army’s 31st Assam Rifles at Margherita Namdang.
“It is easy for armed groups to sneak into Indian territory through Arunachal Pradesh to carry out subversive activities. Arunachal Pradesh borders Myanmar and China, and armed groups take advantage of the rugged terrain to sneak into India,” a police official said.
“Currently, we are unable to identify which armed group carried out the attack. After proper investigation, we can identify the group involved in the attack on the Assam Rifles vehicle,” he added.
At the same time, joint operations were carried out in Tinsukia and adjacent areas.
