Arvind Kejriwal given insulin in Tihar jail after sugar level increased

Arvind Kejriwal insulin controversy: Mr Kejriwal rejected the jail administration’s allegations.

New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was given insulin in Tihar jail on Monday night after his blood sugar level reached 320, while the ideal range should be between 70 and 100. The AAP leader, who is suffering from diabetes, criticized the Tihar jail administration for alleged failure. Despite his repeated requests, he was provided insulin.

Mr Kejriwal’s allegations were refuted by the Tihar Jail administration, which claimed that neither the issue of insulin nor its need was raised during the video consultation with AIIMS experts.

“Today it has become clear that the Chief Minister was right, he needed insulin. But the officials under the BJP central government were deliberately not treating him. Tell me BJP people! If there is no need for insulin then why are you giving it now? ?Because Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said in a statement, the whole world is cursing him.

A city court had directed AIIMS to form a medical board to assess Mr Kejriwal’s medical needs, especially regarding insulin. The court highlighted the discrepancies between the Delhi Chief Minister’s dietary regimen, which consisted of home-cooked food, and the diet prescribed by the doctor.

In a letter to the Tihar Jail superintendent on Monday, Mr Kejriwal rejected the jail administration’s claim that he had never raised the issue of insulin in consultation with doctors. Mr Kejriwal emphasizes that he had continuously raised the issue of insulin demand during the 10 days.

AAP has alleged that the Tihar administration has stopped Mr Kejriwal’s insulin alleging a conspiracy to harm him.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has claimed that the aim of AAP leaders was to generate public sympathy towards Mr Kejriwal’s health during the Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Sachdeva said, “There is no doubt that Arvind Kejriwal is diabetic, but his sugar is under control in jail as he did not demand insulin in the video consultation with AIIMS doctors.”

The Enforcement Directorate accused Mr Kejriwal of regularly eating sugary foods, indicating an attempt to exploit his health for legal gain. Mr Kejriwal immediately rejected these allegations and accused the agency of politicizing the issue.

“Whatever doctor came to see me, I showed him my high sugar level. I showed him that the sugar level had three peaks every day – between 250-320,” Mr Kejriwal said in his letter.

“I also showed them that my fasting sugar level was between 160-200 every day. Almost every day, I would ask for insulin. Then how can you make a statement that I never raised the issue of insulin?”

The Delhi Chief Minister was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money-laundering case related to the Delhi government’s now defunct excise policy and has been lodged in Tihar jail since April 1. The Delhi High Court will hear Mr Kejriwal’s petition. He had challenged the summons issued to him by the investigating agency on May 15.
