AAP leaders enter House demanding release of Arvind Kejriwal

Wearing yellow T-shirts and ‘Kejriwal’ masks, AAP MLAs arrived in the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday to protest against the arrest of the party’s top leader by the education ministry in a money laundering case related to the GST policy.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, symbolically took their social media campaign to Parliament by wearing yellow T-shirts with slogans like “Mai bhi Kejriwal”.

“All AAP MLAs are protesting against the illegal arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Efforts are being made to dismantle democracy in the country. For the first time in the history of India, a sitting Chief Minister has been arrested and this too He was arrested ahead of the national (Lok Sabha) elections,” Atish told reporters during the protest.

AAP launched a social media campaign on Monday and its leaders changed the display image to one depicting Kejriwal in jail with the caption – “Modi ka sabse bada dar Kejriwal (Kejriwal is Modi greatest fear)”.

As parliamentary proceedings began on Wednesday, AAP leaders entered the House and demanded the release of Arvind Kejriwal, who is in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody.

Amid chants, the House of Representatives was adjourned until April 1.

Earlier in the day, AAP leaders gathered outside Parliament demanding the release of the party’s top leader.

After the prorogation of Parliament, leaders led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva launched a counter-protest outside the House demanding Arvind Kejriwal )Resign.

BJP MLAs and workers gathered at the Assembly building, holding placards demanding Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. They were later detained by police.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the now-defunct Delhi excise policy. A court here has remanded him to federal custody until March 28.

The chief minister challenged his arrest in court.
