Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, without naming anyone, hinted that he will field a candidate against the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Friday His cousin, Baramati MP Supriya Sule.

Ajit Pawar sounded the electoral trumpet against Sule, calling on voters to elect a “newcomer” despite being surrounded by “experienced people”. His speech sparked speculation that his party was fielding his wife Sunetra Pawar against Sule.

Ajit Pawar also said that he will contest the Assembly elections from Baramati only if his candidate defeats Sule and urged voters to vote for the development of the constituency.

“Since the formation of Maharashtra and the commencement of elections, there has never been a situation in Baramati where the deposit of an opposition candidate has been forfeited. I am proud of this,” Pawar said on Friday.

In a veiled attack on Sule, he said: “Those who work are bound to face charges. Those who don’t work are bound to stay clean.”
