According to multiple reports, many people in Gaza have been killed by airdropped packages.

According to reports, the parachutes airdropping aid supplies to Gaza failed to open, resulting in many deaths.

Turkish news agency Anadolu said there were multiple casualties during the transport, while Al Jazeera and CNN reported that at least five people had died.

Parachutes on some of the aid packages reportedly malfunctioned as they were dropped over the Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza.

Video posted online appears to show some of the aid packages zipping through the air, much faster than the other parachutes seen above.

It’s unclear who dropped off these specific packages.

The United States, Lebanon and other countries have been airdropping aid into Gaza since last week following reports of severe hunger, malnutrition and dehydration.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned last week that at least 576,000 people in Gaza, a quarter of the enclave’s population, are one step away from famine.

But aid officials say airdrops are not an effective means of distributing aid but are a last resort.

Since the war broke out on October 7, Israel has banned food, water, medicine and other supplies from entering Gaza, except for a small amount of aid entering the south from Egypt’s Rafah crossing and Israel’s Kerem Shalom crossing.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has warned that aid to Gaza faces “significant obstacles” as the war between Israel and Hamas continues.

More than 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the Oct. 7 attack, when militants killed 1,200 people and took hundreds more hostage, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Health officials said more than 70,000 people have been injured in the enclave.
