Two men were arrested by customs officials at the international airport for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 121 crore into the country by hiding it in their rectum, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

One of the men was intercepted on arrival on Tuesday, the statement said.

The customs department said: “During a search of the passengers’ personal belongings and luggage, they found three oval-shaped capsules containing yellow chemical slurry wrapped in transparent rubber material, suspected to contain gold. These capsules were hidden in the rectum of the passengers. .” This statement.

After the extraction process, an irregular gold bar weighing 917.3 grams and with a customs duty value of Rs 59.81 lakh was recovered from the passenger.

In a separate case, the passenger was intercepted after arriving from Jeddah on Monday.

Another statement said he was suspected of carrying foreign-produced gold and was intercepted by customs officials.

“During a search of the passenger’s person and luggage, three oval-shaped capsules suspected to contain chemical paste gold were found from the passenger’s body (expelled from the rectum by himself). After the metal was extracted, a total weight of approximately 981.34 gold was found. Gram,” it said.

Both the accused were arrested and gold weighing about 1.89 kg and worth about Rs 1.21 million was seized.
