XL Bully shot dead by police after injuring four people in Battersea

Police shot and killed a “dangerously out of control” dog believed to be a size XL bully in Battersea, injuring four people.

Metropolitan Police said the dog began attacking people on Home Road at around 10pm on Monday, resulting in four men being taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said armed police arrived shortly after and “made the difficult decision” to shoot the dog.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said the dog was “described as an XL Bully”, adding: “Police subsequently arrested two people – a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman – on suspicion of They are the owners/people of the dog. Responsible for a dangerously out-of-control dog. Both remain in custody.

“Investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances of the incident.”

Police added that the dog would be examined to confirm its breed.

Battersea MP Marsha de Cordova, Labor MP, said on Twitter: “Deeply concerned to hear of the XL Bully dog ​​attack on Battersea Park Road last night.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of the attack and wish them a full recovery.

“I am in contact with the police and their investigation is ongoing. New laws have come into effect making it illegal to own an American XL Bully without an exemption certificate.

The XL Bully was brought under the Dangerous Dogs Act on October 31 last year, when restrictions came into force that stipulate that the dogs must be leashed and muzzled in public.

It will also become illegal to keep, sell or abandon these dogs from 31 December 2023, and from February it will be a criminal offense to own a size XL bully dog ​​without an exemption certificate in England and Wales.
