William Large: MP at center of Westminster sexting scandal gives up Tory whip

William Wragg, who shared other politicians’ personal numbers in a parliamentary sexting scam, can no longer serve as a Tory MP after “voluntarily” giving up the Tory whip.

Mr Large yesterday resigned as deputy chairman of the 1922 Conservative backbenchers committee and resigned from his role leading the Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee.

A spokesman for the Conservative whip said today: “Following Will Large’s decision to resign from the Public Accounts Committee and the 1922 Committee, he has also informed the Chief Whip that he will voluntarily relinquish his position as Conservative Whip.”

The MP for Hazel Grove, Greater Manchester, admitted last week that he had given a colleague’s phone number to someone on a dating app because he feared his intimate photos would be leaked.

Scotland Yard said it was investigating reports of a so-called “honey trap” scam after it emerged that at least 12 men in politics had received unsolicited messages, raising security concerns.
