Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, has revealed how she revealed her cancer diagnosis to her children. The British royal revealed on Friday that she is undergoing chemotherapy to fight cancer discovered after abdominal surgery in January.
In a two-minute video statement, the princess, who has been out of the public eye since December, said the news was a “huge shock” and had led to “an extremely difficult few months” for the royal family.
“This is of course a huge shock and William and I have been doing everything we can to deal with and manage this matter privately for the sake of our young family,” she said.
The 42-year-old also spoke about her absence from public life, saying it took her some time to come to terms with the news and spending time with her children – George, 10, Charlotte, eight Shared with Louise (5 years old).

“As you can imagine, it took time. It took me some time to recover from major surgery before I could start treatment. But most importantly, we spent some time explaining everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in some way It was appropriate for them and reassured them that I was going to be okay,” she added.
Trying to reassure her supporters, she reiterated what she told her children – “I’m fine and getting stronger every day”.
“Like I said to them; I’m getting stronger every day by focusing on things that help me heal, my mind, my body and my spirit.
The princess also thanked her husband, Prince William, for his support and asked for the family’s privacy to be protected. “Having William by my side has also been a great comfort and reassurance. So has the love, support and kindness shown by so many of you. It means a lot to both of us. We hope you can understand this, as a Family, we need some time, space and privacy right now while I complete my treatment,” she said.
The princess’ extended absence over the past few months has sparked speculation among social media users about her health after Kensington Palace said she was recovering from surgery. The rumors intensified after the princess shared a photo of herself and her three children on Mother’s Day and was criticized for seriously altering the photo.
