Days after the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) report on the Gyanvapi Mosque complex was made public, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now shared his views, saying, “Now you must have seen about Varanasi, ASI report has come out in Varanasi, Kashi Vishwanath, Gyanvapi. What was revealed by the ASI report?

Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in the case, while reading the report of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey, said that a large Hindu temple existed before the construction of the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi.

Jain further claimed that the ASI report shows that the temple was destroyed for the construction of the mosque.

Jain said the pillars were systematically studied and parts of the pre-existing temple were reused in building the new structure.

“The central structure of the already existing structure is being used as the hall of the existing mosque. The temple had a large central chamber, with a center to the north, south and west. But this one is towards the east and the others have not been detected.”

Jain further said that the carvings were destroyed for reuse. “34 inscriptions from the previous structure were used in the existing mosque. “This means that the temple was destroyed to build this mosque.”

Excerpts from the findings of the ASI report, accessed by CNN News18, say, “The central chamber of the pre-existing structure forms the central chamber of the existing structure. This structure, with thick and strong walls, was used as the main hall of the mosque with all the architectural components and floral decorations. The animal figures carved at the lower ends of the decorated arches of the pre-existing structure were defaced, and the interior of the dome is decorated with geometric designs.
