Watch Lord Arbuthnot of Edrom live – Horizon Compensation Advisory Committee members give evidence to the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry on Wednesday 10 April.
The former MP for North East Hampshire will speak a day after chief campaigner and former deputy postmaster general Alan Bates told the inquiry that he believed the Post Office was “definitely trying to outdo us” as it told the High Court ” part of an aggressive strategy.
Testifying before Post Office CEO Nick Reid on Tuesday, Bates said the organization “needs to be disbanded” and called it a “dead duck” that “cannot be saved.”
He also targeted the government’s “fundamental flaws” in its inability to deal with issues such as the Horizon scandal “easily and intelligently”.
The Post Office has been heavily criticized since the airing of the ITV drama Mr Bates vs. the Post Office, which thrust the scandal into the spotlight.
Between 1999 and 2015, more than 700 deputy postmasters were prosecuted and criminally convicted by the government agency over flaws in Fujitsu’s Horizon system that led to missing funds from their branches.
