Uttarakhand man loses Rs 30,000 cash, laptop in Bengaluru bus, police respond

Mukesh missed his flight and had only Rs 600 left.

A certified mountain guide from Uttarakhand faced tragic events when his luggage was stolen while he was traveling to Bengaluru in a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus. The man, Mukesh Pawar, a certified mountain guide, was on a bus trip from Salem in Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru and was to go to Delhi from there. However, he snatched the money from himself. Rs 30,000, a laptop, a Samsung tablet and important educational documents during the trip.

He reached out to Anand Shankar, a family friend and X user, who shared the incident on the microblogging platform in hopes of immediate police intervention. “I am very sad and embarrassed since yesterday how an honest hardworking boy from Sidri, my neighboring village Tons Valley, Uttarakhand, was treated by the Bengaluru Police when he went to lodge an FIR because his luggage was stolen from a bus On reaching Dehradun yesterday, I got a call from Mukesh’s uncle, who knows me well, saying that he needed help as all his personal belongings were stolen in Bangalore. Then I immediately met the helpless Mukesh. Found,” he said.

“He was in Salem, Tamil Nadu, to install and certify a ropes course for a customer. After finishing the work, he left Salem for Bengaluru on the evening of February 12, 2024, to catch a flight to Delhi on February 13. Took a TNSTC bus. Since the bus was extremely crowded, he had to keep his luggage on an overhead rack a little behind where he was sitting,” he said.

The user said that Mukesh used to keep an eye on his bag all the time. However, there was a lot of commotion at the Electronic City stop and he looked at his bag. “When he had to get down at Majestic, he was horrified to find that both his bags were missing. The TNSTC bus staff was sympathetic to his loss. They tried their best to help. They took him to the nearest police station at Majestic. Signaled to leave. The police there flatly refused to listen to Mukesh as he had last seen the bag before Electronic City. Even the bus conductor asked him to lodge a complaint through the phone in broken Kannada. Requested, he sent it to Mukesh,” he commented.

Mukesh then went to the Electronic City police station, where he observed that the officers were “drunk” and “not even interested in trying to communicate with him in Hindi.” User Where he says the police finally did not make a diary entry even after a lot of pleading and did not allow him to take photographs of the entry! He requested the police to check the CCTV images of the area where the bus stopped. But he had no interest in it.”

However, he missed his flight and was left with only Rs 600 and had to call his relatives to send money to buy tickets for the next flight. Mr. Shankar wrote, “Mr. But the worst: All his educational and professional certificates + his driving license. This loss hurts him the most because he is a freelancer and whatever company he works with requires him to verify his identity before campaigns. The original mountaineering certificate has to be verified.”

He said Mukesh cannot come to Bengaluru and “visiting all the necessary offices to get duplicates of each certificate is already a huge financial burden for him.” Living in remote hill villages, the cost of transportation to each office is considerable.

Bengaluru City Police took note of this and said, “Please DM her contact number.” Later, Mr Shankar posted an update and said that a complaint has been filed and a copy of it has been shared by the police station. “FIR lodged at @elecityps this evening and complainant Mukesh has received a copy of it. Hopefully better. At least this will help ease the process of applying for duplicate documents.”
