US among world's 10 least congested cities in 2023

The United States has the 10 cities with the least traffic congestion in the world in 2023.According to the report Amsterdam-based positioning technology expert TomTomOklahoma City was the least congested city in the world last year.

The average travel time for a 10-kilometer run in Oklahoma City is 8 minutes and 40 seconds, ranking at the bottom of the index at 387th. Additionally, an average peak-hour speed of 61 km/h results in Oklahoma commuters losing just 19 hours per year.

Oklahoma City is followed by Knoxville, where commuters need 8 minutes and 50 seconds to cover the 10-kilometer distance. The average speed during peak hours is 60km/h, resulting in people losing 18 hours on the road every year.

Last year, commuters took just 9 minutes to cover 10 kilometers, and Santiago ranked 385th on the index. Commuters in San Diego average 54 km/h and waste 30 hours on the road each year, ranking second on the least congested list behind Phoenix.

Commuters in Albany and Dayton take an average of 9 minutes and 10 seconds to travel 10 kilometers, wasting 12 hours on the road each year.

Detroit and Syracuse also set average times of 9 minutes and 10 seconds per 10 kilometers. However, there is a huge difference in the amount of time lost during peak hours each year between the two cities.

Commuters in Detroit lose 17 hours a year on the road, compared with only 11 hours in Syracuse, where the average top speed during rush hour is 63 km/h.

Following these two cities are Fresno, Jacksonville, and Phoenix, which ranked 380th, 379th, and 378th respectively in the transportation index.

For people in Fresno and Jacksonville, the average time to run 10 kilometers in 2023 is 9 minutes and 20 seconds, while commuters in Phoenix will need 10 seconds longer to cover the same distance.

However, with average traffic speeds of 50 km/h during rush hour, people in Phoenix lose 34 hours per year, the highest on the list of least congested cities.

Fresno commuters lose 22 hours a year during rush hour at an average speed of 57 km/h. People in Jacksonville, on the other hand, lose 24 hours a year, and the average speed during rush hour is 54 km/h.
