A 36-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Ghaziabad by a man who gave her a lift outside a beauty salon and took her to his home, police said on Tuesday. The accused, an acquaintance of the woman, has been arrested, they added.

DCP (rural) Vivek Chandra Yadav said the incident took place on Sunday when the woman was standing outside a beauty parlor in Mussoorie district and the accused Anku Ankur Chowdhary (38) offered a ride.

Yadav said Chaudhry took the woman to his rented accommodation where he allegedly raped her. The victim, in her complaint, also alleged that Chaudhary snatched her earrings and took away her mobile phone so that she could not call the police or relatives, the DCP said. The complainant added that he even threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

However, the woman lodged a complaint against the accused at the Mussoorie police station on Tuesday, the DCP said. He added that a case was subsequently registered against Chaudhry under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 392 (punishment for robbery) of the Indian Penal Code and was arrested on the same day.
