UP: Retired policeman shoots himself in Lucknow, investigation on

A 73-year-old retired police officer died Tuesday after allegedly shooting himself in the chest with a licensed revolver, officials said. Additional DCP (North) Abijith R Shankar said that prima facie, the deceased Kailash Chand suffered from multiple health problems and due to which he was suffering from severe mental stress, he committed suicide.

Shankar said Chand had retired from the post of deputy inspector general of police in 2010. Another DCP said that around 3 pm, the police received a call and the caller, Anshul Kumar, said that his uncle used a licensed weapon to shoot him in the chest at his house in Gudumba area. Shoot yourself.

Upon learning of the incident, police teams and forensic experts reached the spot, recovered the body and examined the area, he said.

Further investigation into the matter is on, Shankar said, adding that the body has been sent for post-mortem.
