India’s Union Minister for Information Technology and Electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar has issued a legal notice to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor over his recent comments on a TV channel against the BJP leader defamatory remarks.

Mr. Chandrasekhar, who is facing off against Shashi Tharoor in the upcoming Trivandrum Lok Sabha constituency on April 26, alleged that the Congress MP spread rumors of bribing key voters and parishes “Clearly false information” from influential figures such as pastors. Others were raised by BJP leaders.

The notice claimed that Shashi Tharoor’s remarks were intended to damage the reputation and image of Mr. Chandrasekhar and also accused the entire Christian community and its leaders in Thiruvananthapuram of engaging in cash-for-vote activities , this is disrespectful to them.

It also held that the MP’s remarks violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

The notice also claimed that the remarks were also aimed at harming the BJP leader’s campaign and benefiting Tharoor in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The legal notice issued to the Congress leader asked him to “immediately withdraw” all allegations leveled against Mr. Stop defamation and harassment.” , which will harm the minister’s reputation in the future.”

It warned that failure to comply with the stipulated conditions within 24 hours of receipt of notification will result in the initiation of appropriate criminal and civil proceedings in courts of competent jurisdiction.
