Ultravox star Chris Cross’ bandmate Midge Ure has died, he has announced, paying tribute to his friend, describing him as “the glue that held the band together”.

The musician, whose real name is Chris Allen, is the bassist for the new wave band best known for their 1981 hit “Vienna.”

He was reported to have died on March 25, but the news broke last night.

Ultravox frontman Ure said in a tribute posted on social media: “We worked together, played together, wrote music together, directed videos together. We were instant friends and comrades of Ultravox.”

“Even though we’re years apart, we pick up right where we left off and it’s like the intervening years never existed. You’re the glue that holds the band together. You’re the logic to the madness and madness in our lives. So much. It’s been a pleasure getting to know you and growing up with you. We love and miss you, old friend.”
