The United Kingdom and the United States have signed an agreement that will see their AI security institutes jointly test emerging artificial intelligence models.
Under the MoU, the two countries will align scientific methods, exchange information and personnel, and conduct joint testing of artificial intelligence models.
The announcement was made at the AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park last November, when major AI companies in attendance, such as OpenAI and Google DeepMind, agreed to a voluntary scheme that would allow AI safety Agencies evaluate and test new AI models before they are released.

The UK Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) said the new partnership with the US, which will come into effect immediately, will help governments keep up with new risks as artificial intelligence continues to develop rapidly.
DSIT said it plans to establish similar partnerships with other countries in the future.

Last November, Rishi Sunak said an AI safety summit would “tip the balance in favor of humans”, talking about agreements with AI companies to review their new models.
The Prime Minister said “binding requirements” may be needed to regulate the technology, but now is the time to act quickly in the absence of laws.
Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X, has also described artificial intelligence as “one of the biggest threats” facing humanity.
The UK government announced in February that it would spend more than £100 million to prepare the UK for the regulation of artificial intelligence and the safe use of the technology, including helping regulators in different industries prepare and improve their skills.
Ministers have chosen to use existing regulators to take on the role of overseeing the use of AI within their respective departments, rather than creating a new central regulator dedicated to emerging technologies.
