A powerful spring storm has wreaked havoc across the central United States, bringing dangerous weather conditions to millions of people. While tornadoes threatened the Plains and South, blizzards blanketed the central and western parts of the country.
Storms are a dual threat. In the South, places like Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi were on high alert for tornadoes, strong winds and hail.
Just a day earlier, a deadly tornado in Mississippi injured dozens and destroyed thousands of homes.
In the lower Mississippi Valley, where millions of people live, severe weather warnings warned people to stay safe indoors.
Meanwhile, a winter wonderland is unfolding in the middle of America. Blizzard warnings were issued from Nebraska to Minnesota, with heavy snow expected.
Tornadoes wreaked havoc in places like Kansas and Texas on Sunday – three in Kansas and two in Texas, damaging buildings and power lines. In Perryton, Texas, a tornado damaged the roof of Ochitree General Hospital, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service is warning Perryton will get one to two inches of snow today.
A tornado also struck Sunday in Garden City, Kansas, where damage to power lines, roofs and fences was reported.
As the storm moves rapidly toward eastern Texas and beyond, experts warn the storm could become more severe in Louisiana and Mississippi. Damaging winds, more tornadoes, and even flash flooding are possible.
